Alila SCBD, Jakarta: of Chic Pads and Hip Hangouts
Opening Doors on the 6th February 2019
Alila SCBD Jakarta, the new happening in the city is ready to make its much-anticipated debut on 6th February 2019, taking upscale lifestyle living to the next level in the heart of the city’s most dynamic retail and business district.
Located right next door to the Indonesia Stock Exchange, this five-star hotel is a haven of hip and contemporary sophistication encompassing 227 stylish studios and suites, innovative event spaces, an outdoor pool, gym and Spa Alila, not to mention world-class dining concepts. From the lunch and dinner crowds to the night owls, Alila SCBD caters to Jakarta’s foodies with New York style ‘Vong Kitchen’ and 24-hour ‘Le Burger’, both by Michelin-starred Jean-Georges Vongerichten and son Cedric, as well as ‘Hakkasan’ specialty restaurants by the Hakkasan Group.
Alila SCBD stands out from the crowd with its unique design architecture, the work of Bangkok-based IAW. The design was inspired by the irregular, boot-like shape of the site, resulting in a long podium and a diamond-shaped tower. The hotel’s striking façade features a unique overlapping pattern of aluminium sticks and canopies, creating lines and shadows and a sense of illusion for passers-by. The dynamic shape of the building accords guest rooms in many different configurations, all with stunning picture windows, indulgent bathrooms and designer mod cons.
Alila SCBD’s sophisticated minimalist interiors are intertwined with original artworks specially commissioned for this cool urban retreat. Outside the entrance to the hotel, guests are greeted by the ‘Orbital of Joy’, a large wall-mounted work of art created by Yogyakarta-based art duo Indieguerillas. The circular orbital shape of this contemporary piece represents a continuous cycle or journey. The six characters that make up the piece represent travellers on their own personal journeys. Each hugs a geotag icon symbolising a place to stopover, take a break and recoup one’s energy along the journey. While enjoying their own ‘stopover’ at Alila SCBD, guests are welcome to photo themselves as one of many characters replicated in the artwork for that memorable moment on their journey.
Stepping inside the hotel’s large living room-styled lobby reveals a dramatic art installation titled ‘Birds, Bats and Butterflies’, created by Australian-born architect and artist Richard Hassell, co-founder of the award-winning WOHA Architects. It comprises a series of three-dimensional bird, bat and butterfly shaped aluminium tiles in different sizes, ranging from 80cm to 400cm, mounted on the wall or suspended from the ceiling.
The tile designs take inspiration from South East Asian batik and textiles, and all the creatures depicted within them are auspicious – from the butterflies that symbolise long life, beauty and elegance, to the phoenix, one of the four celestial creatures, bringing good fortune and opportunity.
The interiors of Vong Kitchen and Le Burger ooze Manhattan vibes in the hands of New York-based Rockwell Group, while the interior design for Hakkasan is by the renowned Parisian firm GBRH.
Whether in the city for business or to see the sights, this is the place to be. A sophisticated commune for work and play, Alila SCBD Jakarta is the new happening.
